We are a research lab at the University of California, Berkeley. We investigate how vision works and apply our insights to improve visual technologies.

Our research areas include...

Neuroscience of Perception

We investigate how people see and the neural mechanisms that support visual perception, focusing on how the brain efficiently encodes information about space and motion.

Understanding Real Environments

Our visual system transforms flat retinal images into rich, three-dimensional experiences. We study the cues that make this possible, and the computations that underlie understanding in complex scenes.

Visual Technology

We help design better visual displays and immersive experiences, including augmented and virtual reality. We also explore how to adapt these technologies to provide vision enhancement beyond conventional glasses.
